U.S. Girls - Presents ‘Pearly Gates’ Video
U.S. Girls : Presents ‘Pearly Gates’ Video
10th January 2018

Today, U.S. Girls presents a new song, ‘Pearly Gates’, from her forthcoming album, In a Poem Unlimited.

On ‘Pearly Gates’, protean pop revisionist Meg Remy describes a woman who wishes to seduce St. Peter to secure entry to the heavenly realm, with mixed results. Featuring vocalist James Baley and with music written by long-time U.S. Girls collaborator Louis Percival and performed by Toronto-based The Cosmic Range, Remy explains further, “Some years back a story was recounted to me about a man attempting to convince a woman to engage in unprotected sex by saying, “Don’t worry, I’m really good at pulling out”. I thought this was a hilariously stupid thing to say and knew that one day I would build a song around this line.”

The single’s celestial companion video was directed by Chrissy Jones, who stars alongside Fizzy.  Watch the visuals in full below, or stream the track here.

In a Poem Unlimited is second U.S. Girls release for 4AD, and also includes the singles, ‘Velvet 4 Sale’ and ‘Mad As Hell’.  It is scheduled for release on 16th February.  Remy’s sixth studio album was tracked in collaboration with the Cosmic Range, and features arrangements by Percival and Maxmilian Turnbull.  A dizzying buffet of live grooves, In a Poem Unlimited represents an inversion of the dusty, sample-based minimal textures of Half Free, Remy’s euphoric 4AD debut.

Poem features dark meditations on charged atmospheres that directly precede and follow acts of violence.  Many of the songs are character studies of women grappling with power; how to gain and exert it spiritually, as well as desperate strategies to mitigate its infliction.  Remy also rallies against the public lies told by political and religious leaders, and more crucially, questions the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive.  While U.S. Girls, denoting the plural, is no longer a misnomer, In A Poem Unlimited may be Remy’s most individually distilled protest to date.

In A Poem Unlimited is released on vinyl, CD and on all digital platforms on 16th February 2018.
With artwork designed by Robert Beatty, the album is available to pre-order from 4AD here.
