Tune-Yards - tUnE-yArDs Releases Yoko Ono Charity 10" Single Today
Tune-Yards : tUnE-yArDs Releases Yoko Ono Charity 10" Single Today
12th February 2013

In 2010, Yoko Ono performed several shows with the Plastic Ono Band and special guests at the Orpheum in Los Angeles. Among the guests of Iggy Pop, Mike Watt, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Perry Farrell, RZA, Lady Gaga, Carrie Fisher and Joseph Gordon-Levitt performing songs from throughout Yoko’s career were tUnE-yArDs, an act she had recently fallen in love with.

Their update of the 1972 lyrics of Yoko's ’We're All Water’ was to prove a highlight and shortly afterwards, Yoko asked them to record the song for a benefit single. Finally being released today as the second in a series of 10" records, each with different artists performing Yoko songs. Pressed in a limited quantity of just 1000 copies with the B-side an etching of a Yoko dot drawing. Also included on the release is a tUnE-yArDs' remix of Yoko's song ‘Warrior Woman’ (an out-take from the Plastic Ono Band's 1973 Feeling The Space album), which works also as a preview of a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Yes, I'm A Witch (to be released later this year on Mindtrain/Twisted Records), featuring re-inventions of Ono's catalogue by an eclectic group of artists.

Profits from the record as well as 100% of income from the downloads (at www.ChimeraMusic.com) are being donated to the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, who have been doing great work for one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy, providing emergency food and shelter, and helping families and businesses get back on their feet. More information can be found here.

In other tUnE-yArDs news, they're booked to make a live appearance this month at Carnegie Hall in New York on the 21st. In benefit of Tibet House, the benefit show with Philip Glass as it's artistic director will also include performances from Ariel Pink, Jim James, Patti Smith and her Band, Rahzel and Tenzin Choegyal. Tickets are available now from here.

Watch tUnE-yArDs performance at Austin City Limits recently aired on PBS.
