Last week 4AD descended on Austin, TX for SXSW where a number of our acts played acclaimed shows, and Cheer Up Charlie's hosted our first label showcase in five years, in association with Howl.
Future Islands, following their stunning performance on the Late Show with David Letterman, made their first SXSW count with a large number of shows, including a slot at the Hype Hotel, and parties for SPIN and Pitchfork. Their electrifying live show won plaudits from Stereogum and The Guardian, whilst the latter's Tim Jonze also chatted to the band about their new-found exposure following their televsion debut. You can now stream their debut album Singles ahead of release next week here.
SOHN, despite travel issues, arrived just in time to appear at I Guess We're Floating's Hype Machine showcase, before enthralling live sets for the 4AD showcase and Laneway Festival. Merchandise also performed at Cheer Up Charlie's with a second show at Las Cruxes, whilst they also filmed a Field Recording session for NPR, with run date TBC. bEEdEEgEE also performed at Cheer Up Charlie's.
Twin Shadow played an exclusive show for Red Bull at The Belmont, whilst he also found time to film a 'dumpster show' for Funny Or Die, sending up the trend for secret shows by playing a show in a dumpster, whilst the audience documented the action on Instagram and Twitter. You can watch the 'set' here.
As part of our partnership with Howl, you can now catch archived interview content with Future Islands, Lo-Fang, Merchandise and SOHN that was exclusively live-streamed through Howl around the showcase. You can watch all the footage here.
