Tune-Yards : tUnE-yArDs To Perform Special Show In London Tomorrow Night, Launches Okay Africa Mixtape
17th July 2012

Tomorrow marks the seventh instalment of Sounds From A Room, the monthly live music event taking place in the Roi des Belges, a boat placed atop Queen Elizabeth Hall in London throughout the city's Olympic year as part of Room For London (a creative joint venture between ArtAngel and Living Architecture).

tUnE-yArDs have kindly been invited to perform one of the twelve unique live shows to take place in the boat, and following on from the likes of Amadou & Mariam, Andrew Bird, Baaba Maal and Laurie Anderson. The performance starts tomorrow at 6pm GMT.

In keeping with the event, the band will be straying from their usual live set-up and will have two guest singers from the Nigerian New Covenant Church joining them. Although no audience will be able to join them in the boat, the full set is to be broadcast - for free - on a giant screen downstairs in the the Queen Elizabeth Hall's foyer, and via the Room for London website and The Guardian. The festivities start at 5pm with a one-hour set from DJ Fitz, known for spinning 60s / 70s / 80s psychedelic, rock and pop sounds emanating from Asia, Anatolia and Persia.

That's not all. Having recently aired their collaboration with Angelique Kidjo, Akua Naru and Ahmir ?uestlove Thompson (more here), last week saw tUnE-yArDs release their debut mixtape. The 22nd installment of Okay Africa's Africa in Your Earbuds mix series, Merrill has put together a half-hour mix of some of her favourite Congolese, Ethiopian, Nigerian, Somalian, South African and Tanzanian music. Now online, you can hear it playing and read more about it on Okay Africa's site.
