Bon Iver’s second album, Bon Iver, Bon Iver, was released in June, and was greeted with an incredible fanfare, debuting in the UK top 5 and earning gold status by November. And it was this success that was to set the tone for the band's rise throughout the year.
Featuring ten new songs penned by Justin Vernon, Bon Iver, Bon Iver expanded the group's sonic palette beyond the rustic acoustics of the debut. A lush landscape of silky electric guitars, intricate keys, and subtle horn and string sections, Bon Iver, Bon Iver retained the ghost choirs and densely layered vocals intact that Bon Iver is widely celebrated for.
In October, the band curated and headlined the inaugral Pitchfork Paris festival, alongside playing two back-to-back sold out shows at Hammersmith Apollo in London. The band also found time to make their debut on UK television, playing as an 11-piece band on Later With Jools Holland. The year culminated with Bon Iver being nominated for four Grammy Awards.
A deluxe version of the album is now available, featuring videos for each of the album's ten tracks. Watch the video for "Holocene", Pitchfork's second best song of the year, below.
