U.S. Girls - U.S. Girls Release 'IOU' Video
U.S. Girls : U.S. Girls Release 'IOU' Video
29th July 2020

Today, U.S. Girls, the protean musical enterprise of multi-disciplinary artist Meg Remy, releases the music video for ‘IOU’, directed by Colin Medley. It captures the magic of art created together, with footage from the recording of U.S. Girls’ 2020 album Heavy Light. To watch 20 musicians recording an album entirely live in-studio now is to peer into the divine. Watch it in the player below.

Remy sat down with Grammy Museum’s Scott Goldman for an in-depth conversation that touched on Jimmy Webb, Ed Squires and classical percussion, and the ways in which recording Heavy Light - with 5 vocalists often singing into one mic - would be considered dangerous today. Watch the interview here.

Heavy Light was produced by Remy, who also co-wrote the album with Basia Bulat and Rich Morel to develop the set of songs conceived as a balance between orchestral percussion (as richly arranged by percussionist Ed Squires) and the human voice (conducted by Kritty Uranowski). The resulting album finds Remy casting herself as lead voice among a harmonious multitude, the singers of which lend not only their voices, but also share reflections on childhood experiences that are collaged into moving spoken word interludes throughout the album. The album was mixed by long-time collaborators Maximilian ‘Twig’ Turnbull, Steve Chahley and Tony Price.
