4AD

Grimes is the inventive work of Claire Boucher, a 24 year-old who after moving to Montreal for college, quickly embraced the city’s burgeoning DIY scene instead, expressing herself as an artist for the first time.

In just three years, Claire released as many albums - Halfaxa (2010), Geidi Primes (2011) and Visions (2012), plus a split EP with d'Eon called Darkbloom (2011). - all self-produced, with each one building on the success of the last.

It was with the release of Visions though, her first for 4AD, that things went global; a whirlwind year followed it's release with her gracing many a magazine cover, performing on TV for the first time, touring across four continents and hosting her first exhibition of paintings among her achievements. She also found the time to direct two music videos - 'Oblivion' (a co-direction with Emily Kai Bock) and 'Genesis' - both being met with fervour online. The album topped many an end of year of poll and her year was rounded off with the prestigious Webby Awards making her their Artist of the Year for her "raising the bar for all solo entertainers, showing a fearlessness, candor and understanding of the Web that makes her a true 21st century digital star."

In parallel to her music, Claire found herself working with some of the most renowned names in fashion too; soundtracking an Iris Van Herpen show, performing for Versace, sitting front row at a Chanel couture show, attending the Met Gala ball, collaborating with Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent, and modelling for Vogue among her highlights.
