Tkay says of ‘Nights In December’ – “I thought it would be cool to make a song that captures the feeling of a new relationship but using wintertime in New York as the inspiration. I had a trip where I spent a winter in New York, and it was really beautiful so I almost wanted to recreate that feeling in a song.”

‘Nights In December’ follows a vibrant recent JPEGMAFIA remix of ‘High Beans’ and a feature on Babyface’s new album Girls Night Out. Her 2021 EP Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 3 represents the culmination of a 3-year-long, 24 song-strong genre-bending trilogy exploration of Maidza’s own African-Australian experience. Across Vol. 3’s 8 tracks Tkay encompassed everything from pop to trap to R&B which earned a 2021 ARIA Awards win for Best Soul/R&B Release and a 2022 NME Award nomination for Best Solo Act In The World.
