The 25th January saw the release of Tindersticks debut for 4AD, Falling Down A Mountain. Not only the label's first release of 2010, it also had the honour of being the first record to appear on the shelves with a CAD 3X catalogue number (although it was attributed 02 - 01 went to Efterklang's Magic Chairs released later in the year).

Falling Down A Mountain was the band's eighth long-player in total and very much a group effort - with the trio of Stuart Staples, David Boulter and Neil Fraser joined by fresh additions Earl Harvin and David Kitt. A video was made for 'Black Smoke' (see below), which was also released as a free download, available here. The band also toured throughout the first half of the year, visiting a number of key cities across the UK and Europe.

The critics were suitably impressed with Falling Down A Mountain, receiving it with an almost unanimous fervour, earning a 5/5 rating in the Mail on Sunday alongside equally effusive praise in Record Collector, MOJO, NME, Word, and The Sunday Times.

2011 should see the band working on various new projects.

Falling Down A Mountain is out now on CD, LP and download.
