Taken from Daughter’s stellar debut album, If You Leave, ‘Youth’ is the band’s new single.
Originally appearing on the band's self-released The Wild Youth EP (2011), 'Youth' has long been a mainstay in the band's live sets, with it's popularity having been further bolstered by a gorgeous debut TV performance on The Late Show with David Letterman and it soundtracking the ITV's Tour De France coverage. Having since been re-recorded for the album, it's now finally getting an official release as a single, coming out on 7” and download this August with a brand new track, ‘Smoke’, as it’s b-side.
The accompanying video was filmed last month in the band’s native London, shot entirely in black and white. After witnessing the bands's live show at the Hackney Empire, the director took three elements from the show for inspiration - namely darkness, space & light - to perfectly capture the essence of both band and song.
You can view the video on VEVO here or below. Viewers in Germany can watch the video here.
The band have had an incredible year already on the road, extensively touring across both Europe and North America. They head back out on the road shortly with a huge run of shows across four continents ahead of them. Taking in festivals, shows with both Sigur Ros and The National and numerous headline shows, it all starts next weekend when they’ll play two shows at Glastonbury Festival (John Peel Stage and headlining the BBC Introducing Stage on the 28th). All forthcoming live dates can be found below...
