Efterklang - Listen To A New Efterklang Song, 'Hollow Mountain'
Efterklang : Listen To A New Efterklang Song, 'Hollow Mountain'
15th August 2012

Today, Efterklang shared the opening track of their forthcoming album Piramida, out on September 24th. ‘Hollow Mountain’ can now be heard online from Efterklang’s website www.efterklang.net or streamed below.

Accompanying ‘Hollow Mountain’ is a specially-commissioned visual piece created and directed by Oodls (Jakob Steen & Christoffer Frandsen). The clip features the band’s own photos from their trip to Piramida as well as elements of Piramida album artwork (designed by Hvass&Hannibal).

As previously revealed, last summer Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg visited Piramida, an abandoned mining settlement located on Spitsbergen, just 1,000km from the North Pole. Nine days of exploring later, and the band had collected over 1,000 sound recordings and inspiration for the album they would subsequently write and record in Berlin. For a glimpse of Piramida though Efterklang’s eyes, watch a short film here.

The initial tones of ‘Hollow Mountain’ are the sounds of protruding metal spikes of a curious-looking oil tank being struck (nicknamed ‘Miss Piggy’ by the band’), images of which can be seen above. With contributions from Earl Harvin (Tindersticks), Nils Frahm, Peter Broderick and the 60-piece South Denmark’s Girls Choir, ‘Hollow Mountain’ is a grand opening statement to Efterklang’s fourth studio album.

Earlier this year, Efterklang launched Piramida to a sold-out audience at the Sydney Opera House alongside the Sydney Symphony - a unique way of introducing a new body of work to the world. Their forthcoming tour, The Piramida Concerts, will continue in this same vein, with the band once again performing with orchestras in concert halls around the globe. The live shows will feature Budgie (Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Creatures) on drums, whose first show performed with Efterklang in Sydney.
