Love Streams, Tim Hecker’s eighth studio album, is released worldwide on April 8th and the pioneering electronic composer has shared a second track, album closer ‘Black Phase’. As with its predecessor, the cavernous ‘Castrati Stack’, the influence of 15th century choral scores strongly resonate on ‘Black Phase’, which showcases the voices of the Icelandic Choir Ensemble dissolving into a darkly hypnotic dissonance.
You can listen via Spotify here or in the player below, or on the streaming service of your choice here.
The Love Streams sessions took place throughout 2014 and 2015 at Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavik, Iceland – where parts of both previous albums Virgins and Ravedeath, 1972 were tracked – with Hecker reuniting with the same crew of collaborators from Virgins (Ben Frost, Kara-Lis Coverdale, Grímur Helgason) and bolstered by the Icelandic Choir Ensemble, whose vocal arrangements were scored by Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson.
Love Streams is out on April 8th. To coincide with its release, Tim Hecker will take part in a Reddit AMA on 8th April at 10am PST/1pm EST/6pm UK. Listen to a selection of Hecker’s past and current collaborators on Spotify, ranging from Johann Johannsson, Ben Frost, Oneohtrix Point Never and more here.
