Liima : 'Amerika' Video, Directed by Olivier Groulx
9th February 2016

Nordic four-piece Liima have premiered the video for their debut single ‘Amerika’, from their forthcoming album ii, out on March 18th.

The short film was directed by Olivier Groulx and filmed on America’s West Coast in Palmdale, CA.  It was shot entirely on smart phones and features all four members of Liima.  You can watch on the 4AD YouTube channel here, or below.  Viewers is Germany can watch the video here.

“Rasmus and I kept going back to this idea that everybody’s anxious and that whatever we’re doing to distract ourselves from these anxieties is no longer working,” says Groulx.  “That feeling of not being able to outrun it is what got us started..”

The Finnish word for ‘glue’, Liima was formed by Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö plus Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg of Danish act Efterklang.  ii features songs written in Finland, Berlin, Istanbul and Madeira during four week-long residencies, each place influencing the sound, sometimes literally through field recording and sampling.  Every residency ended with a live concert, performing the freshly written songs in front of an audience.  With their simple set-up – synthesizers, drum samplers, vocals, effects pedals and a bass guitar – the four have been able to draw upon their creative dynamic, playing by intuition like a collective conscience, to shape improvised sketches and ideas into songs. ii was recorded at Vox-Ton studio in Berlin, produced by Jonas Verwijnen and mixed to tape by Francesco Donadello.

The first pressing of ii will be available on neon green vinyl.  You can pre-order from the 4AD Store here.
